Newsletter 7th June 2024

Headteacher Message

Mrs. Jennifer Evans

Welcome to the final half term of the 2023/2024 academic year. With just six weeks to go until the Summer holidays, attendance remains of the utmost importance. Missing just one week of school during term time means that the highest possible attendance a pupil can achieve is 97.4%. A two-week holiday reduces that percentage to 94.7%. Please continue to make sure that your child is attending school every day and on time to maximise their chances of success. If you need support with attendance, call our Attendance Team whose details are later on in this newsletter.

This week has been a very busy first week back for our Year 11 pupils, as there have been seven exams taking place around the school. I would like to again wish all pupils the very best of luck during this exam period, and I have every faith that pupils will try their hardest. I would also like to thank staff who have put on revision booster sessions to further support pupils’ revision. Please encourage your child to take regular revision breaks and to make sure that they are eating, drinking, and sleeping well.

Elsewhere in Dean Trust Wigan this week, Cookery Club pupils have made a tasty sweet treat in the form of a replica Costa Chocolate Pastry Twist. Mr Abel has travelled to the Republic of Ireland in his capacity as Assistant Coach to Scotland’s Wheelchair Rugby League team for the 2024 Celtic Cup, Year 8 pupils have taken part in a tournament at Manchester United’s training facility and won two of their games, and Year 9 pupil Scarlett G has signed on for a 6th term with Manchester United Academy team. Well done to all for their outstanding efforts.

As a result of pupils participating in the Cash For Kids 1 Million Steps Challenge, Dean Trust Wigan are delighted to have won 20 books from publishers Simon & Schuster Children’s Books. These books will be awarded to one pupil in each form group who has been engaging with DTW Reads.

I wish you all a restful weekend.
