Headteacher Message

Mrs. Jennifer Evans

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week has been a very exciting week for Dean Trust Wigan, and a busy week for our sports stars. Football teams from Years 7, 8, and 10 played against Shevington High School this week, with the Year 8 team winning their match 5-4 and the Years 7 and 10 teams drawing after very close games. Year 7 also played against The Deanery on Wednesday.

In the first of our Staff v Year 11 tri-series of sporting events, the Staff won the basketball game 17-13 last week, and this week the staff continued their winning streak by winning the netball; further information about that will follow in next week’s newsletter.

Mr Kenny, Assistant Head, played in the Welsh FA Cup last weekend and won 2-1, which is a fantastic achievement, and Mr Herron represented Scotland in an international squash tournament, helping secure third place by winning one of his matches 3-0. We are incredibly proud of both of these staff members for their incredible talent and skill.

In Cookery Club, pupils made mozzarella-stuffed garlic doughballs and decorated their boxes to take them home to family and friends. In Spanish, pupils volunteered to sit mock speaking exams to practice their vocabulary, which shows how dedicated these pupils are to their development.

Perhaps the greatest achievement this week has been the whole-school effort to take part in a Morning Mile walk to raise money for Cash for Kids. 760 pupils and staff took part, and we have raised a phenomenal £520 so far for the charity, with that number climbing every day. If you would like to donate to our fundraising page, the link can be found on our social media channels.

I wish you all a lovely extended weekend, and look forward to seeing you all again after the Bank Holiday, on Tuesday 7th May.
