Headteacher Message

Mrs. Jennifer Evans

Dear parents and carers,

This week has marked the start of examination season, with a total of 9 GCSE exams this week. I am incredibly proud of our pupils who have shown great resilience and positive attitudes at this stressful time, and also proud of the support offered to them by all of our staff. Please can Year 11 parents remind pupils to take regular revision breaks, eat and drink well, and to get enough sleep during this time.

You may remember that earlier this month, Dean Trust Wigan helped Hits Radio’s Sam Thompson with his 1 Million Steps School Challenge in aid of Cash for Kids. We have since learned that our steps from Dean Trust Wigan made up part of the over 11 million steps (11,604,206 in total) and helped to raise a phenomenal £1,004,030 – which could provide food for 182,551 children who might have gone hungry this Summer. Thank you to all staff and pupils who helped to organise this event.

Speaking of food, this week in Cookery Club, pupils have made a school favourite in the form of a 7-inch school cake, with each pupil taking on separate responsibilities to work as a team to bring this together.

We have also begun a competition in the Modern Foreign Languages department (‘MFL’) and further details about how to join this are later in the newsletter.

I wish you all a restful weekend, and look forward to seeing you all for our final week of the half term next week. Please make sure to continue to send your children in to school during the final week, as even one days’ absence means that your child will miss out on up to 6 lessons, as well as assemblies and reward opportunities
