Newsletter 22nd March 2024

Headteacher Message

Mrs. Jennifer Evans

We have just finished our penultimate week of the Spring Term, and it has been a busy one!

We have ‘Gone Blue for BSL’ this week: staff have worn blue to school, pupils have used British Sign Language to sign during assemblies every day this week, and we have raised money for Wigan & Leigh Deaf Children’s Society. To my knowledge, we are the only school in the area to have done something to mark British Sign Language Week (18th-24th March) and I am incredibly proud that Dean Trust Wigan are making strides to be such an inclusive school.

We have also held our Inaugural Pi Day Competition this week! It was fantastic to see our community coming together, and celebrating the strong relationships between staff and pupils. Pupils and staff were also surprised by a special guest, with photos from the event in next week’s newsletter, so keep an eye out for those.

Our pupils have also been supporting our community by participating in Wigan Councils ‘Spring Clean’,  and have been out and about cleaning up our local area wearing Dean Trust Wigan high-vis vests. Thank you to all who participated in this.

We are also delighted to have been joined by one of our former pupils, Liam, this week, who completed work experience with us. Liam is now studying at St John Rigby College and we wish him all the best of luck in his future endeavours. It is always lovely when former pupils reach out to us, so that we can learn more about what they are achieving after leaving us, and share in their successes.

Next week is a short week with only four days, and attendance is essential as pupils are in lessons being taught all week. We are also running daily attendance competitions, with one pupil every day winning a £25 Just Eat voucher. All children are entitled to an education, which means coming to school each and every day. Any child who misses any of the last four days of the school term will miss out on assemblies, celebrations, rewards, a silent disco, and most importantly, their learning.

I wish you all a restful weekend, and look forward to seeing all pupils next week.
